I don't know what I was thinking....
I went and put in my line application last Monday and on the form they ask you for a preferred date and time that you would like your installation done (after three days)so I specified Friday at 10am......HA HA HA HA!!! They came TODAY after much nagging and threatening so I finally have internet at home so hopefully I'll be blogging much more now. The latter is of course all dependent on Jason sleeping! He gets up to all sorts of disgusting things if I don't keep a beady eye on him. He has a toilet brush fetish and loves playing with them (yes I know...vomit!!!) and today he was playing in the courtyard with dog poo. Obviously I took my eyes off him for a second too long! I was busy downloading mail....my bad!!!
Our visa's expire tomorrow so unless Mike can get hold of his "contact" at immigration we have to do the great trek to the Tanzanian border to get new ones and that is about 600km's!! I really hope we don't have to because the roads aren't great so it's not like you can bomb along at 140km/h!!!!!
so.....If I don't post - know I've gone to Tanzania for the weekend! LOL

The internet saga....part 492
Sheesh!!! I'm starting to find this tiresome so reading about it must be even more tiresome!
So I tried the UTL GPRS option. What a flipping joke! For a start off, the network kept dropping so JUST as I got a connection UTL would go down...oh joy. Then...it's no slower or faster than MTN which is not surprising considering they both offer GPRS but MTN at least offer a package. MTN offer a 90 000 Ugsh / month uncapped bundle whereas UTL don't have any packages so I would have to go post paid (which is like being on a contract) and would be paying 2 Ugsh / Kb which would mean I would burn through 150 000 Ugsh within a week!!!
So the final conclusion....
A 64kb ADSL leased line from UTL for $106.02 / month. Now I just have to get a router because UTL's cheapest is $250!!!

I've been tagged
For a MEME by Jeanette! It works such...
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people and post a comment here once you post it to your blog, so I can come see.
My nearest book was The old girl Network. An hysterically funny book!
I don't really know five other bloggers to tag that haven't already been tagged so I'll just tag the ones that I know of!
Carol - because I would SO loved to have gone to bookclub with Carol
Marina - because Marina really tried to get a bookclub up and running!
Maybe I should try and get a book club going here....wine is sooooo expensive here though. I needed some wine for cooking with yesterday so while I was at Shoprite today I priced it....for a 5L box of Overmeer (SEEEERIOUSLY cheap plonk in SA) I would be looking at paying about R450!!! YIKES!!! The Italian stuff is cheaper! I'm going to have to make a note of asking people to bring as many bottles of wine as they can when they come up from SA.

I rather over-confidently swievelled my eyes to the right only to encounter a sadistic little pinstriped chappie grinning at me from behind his Financial Times. Mortified, I instantly turned my back and was about to walk away when the tube came in. I managed at least to get into a different carriage, but as I stepped on I looked down the platform and saw him winking at me.The "heroine" just realised her knickers were falling out of the bottom of her jeans because she had taken her jeans and knickers off together in a drunken haze the night before and they had got caught up in the leg of the jeans. LOL!!

Cats and Mozzie Nets
The two don't mix. Simon decided to sleep with Nicholas last night but being a cat decided at 4am that it was time to prowl. Only problem was...he couldn't get out of the bed! The net is suspended from the ceiling in four places and reaches down to the floor and somehow he managed to get out by pulling one of the suspended corners down and I haven't checked for holes yet! This in turn woke Nicholas up at 5am....it's going to be a loooong day!

Two other things....
1. No - I didn't go to the Womens federation tea morning. My excuse...the washing machine wasn't working so I was really scraping the bottom of the barrel for clothes. I know...lame.
2. I FINALLY went to UTL (Uganda Telecom) today to get sorted out with the GPRS so hopefully I'll be blogging more often now. Unfortunately 3G is not going to be happening any time soon. Drat...foiled again!

We're done....
with the MAJOR bits involved with the move anyway!
The dogs and cats arrived last night. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I didn't realise how lonely and almost soulless the house was until they arrived. This morning when I blearily got up to start the day it was nice to have some company in the kitchen while I waited for the kettle to boil. I had my little hot water bottle under the blanket with me last night too...how I've missed her! Rosie will sleep next to me under the duvet / sheet / blankets no matter how hot it is! Fortunately yesterday was a rainy day in Kampala so it was quite cool last night so it wasn't a hardship having her there. Simon has always been a real lovebug demanding attention and kneading when he's happy but today he was actually drooling when I was stroking him.
The dogs are also exceptionally happy....Bonnie has her tyre so her life is complete and Josie has Mike so she's as happy as a pig in the proverbial! Simon and Bonnie have both lost weight but they aren't skeletal and they all look very healthy with shiny coats etc. We used Animal Travel Agency by the way if you are planning on sending live cargo anywhere.
It was Gareth's (my nephew) 21st birthday on Monday and I had my first bout of homesickness. I was doing ok until I spoke to him and then the floodgates opened....I sobbed all the way home!! We phoned and sang to him just before I dropped Nix off at school - we couldn't phone any earlier because we are an hour ahead of SA. I've been warned that at two months it gets bad too...thats coming up at the end of the month. ****Note to self - keep busy at end of month!!****
The house is sort of unpacked....there aren't many boxes left anymore but some of the stuff has been unpacked and literally thrown into cupboards so maybe I should attack one room a week. Yes...it WILL take that long!! I did the boys playroom over two days which quite impressed me but there's still quite a bit that needs doing in there. I EVEN found the key that winds up a helicopter that Nicholas got for his 2nd birthday...how cool is that??!! He's nearly 5 ok??!!
Another happy note...Mieke took me to a place called Wacky Wood House for a "Toddlers Music Morning" type thingy. What a cooool place!! It's a play garden with all sorts of toys and play equipment and a tea garden for the Mommies to sit and natter in while the kids play. They even have ladies supervising the kids at play so you can actually talk without four hundred interruptions! YAY!! It's half term next week...guess where I'm going to be! LOL!!
